The Start of Solo Homeschool

This year’s group homeschooling w/ the 4 other mums have been enriching and I have certainly learnt a lot from them along the way.  But I do see a needs and benefits to homeschool Ethan on our own.  Sooooo, I have finally drawn out some plans and while we are all stuck at home cos of Zoe’s illness, I put my plan into trial.

Yesterday was a rusty start, but today has been been very much more fun.

We started the day w/ our usual breakfast, and since Zoe is already much better, brought both kids to the playground to burn off some energy.  This is as planned.  And wash up and putting Zoe to nap follows.  By 11pm, Zoe napped and I was ready to teach Ethan.   All went on very well, and by noon, we were ready to prepare lunch.

One of mys plan to homeschool Ethan on my own is to get him more involved in some housework, like cooking and baking.  Today’s lunch is pasta w/ capsicum and prawns.  I got Ethan in charge of cutting the prawns while I peel them.  At first, he was very hesitant to even touch it, but I held his hands and encouraged him along.  Very quickly, he learnt and started cutting the prawns VERY WELL…

I’m impressed… Not because of how well he do the job, but by his willingness to try.  He used to be very ‘against’ new things and changes, but today, he is very open.  And my helper and me have fun hearing some comments from EThan:

“mummy, you didn’t remove this prawn’s poo poo!!!”…

(in case u wondering, that’s the black thread in the middle of the prawn, which i’m in charge of removing it.)

It was really funny everytime i hear him said that.

And after the prawns are cut, i involved him to help marinade them.  My writing hear my sounds monotonous, but the experience was really great.  And of course, Ethan enjoyed the lunch much more than other days and finish it very quickly.  In fact, he used to dislike prawns, but today, he finished all the prawns on his plate.  :)

I’m now more convinced than before to homeschool Ethan on my own, but the homeschool days still need some fine-tuning.  What a fun-filled day at home.

So much to cover but so little time

Today is certainly a fruitful homeschool planning day.  I wonder if I’m too ambitious or ??? Now I’m not lacking in a curriculum, but lack of time.  There can be so many fun things to be done, not just academic, but real fun stuffs.  Hmmm… I’m enjoying this… But i certainly hope that when homeschool proper starts, I will not be burnt out since this time, I be doing it “All By Myself… (don’t wanna be) :P
